Registered Clinical Counsellor, Victoria, BC.

Kendra is the owner and human behind Strides Counselling & Mental Performance. As a a cis-gendered, white woman (she/her), Kendra acknowledges and gives thanks to the LƏK̓ʷƏŊƏN & W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples on whose traditional, unseeded territory she lives, works, and plays.

  • For as long as can remember, I have been fascinated by the human experience - namely, the stories and life contexts that shape who a person is, how they identify, and how they perceive the world around them. Like many, I wear multiple hats in my roles as a counsellor, coach, daughter, friend, business owner, etc. In each of these roles, however, I aspire to be a human whose actions reflect an identity rooted in purpose rather than performance. Having experienced significant loss at a young age, I understand the benefit that a helping hand can provide when navigating through difficult experiences or life-transitions. I feel both humbled and privileged to play a small part in client’s evolving journeys as they take strides towards wellness, healing, and growth.

When I am not counselling, you’ll typically me spending quality time with friends, trail running with my golden retriever, Doug, or playing tennis!

  • The collaborative process of my work is fuelled by a genuine interest in understanding how you perceive the world around you, the experiences that have formulated these perceptions, and the dialogue you maintain. By listening to hear rather than respond or direct, I maintain a consistent appreciation for you as the expert of your own life. My skill is helping clients uncover their pre-existing strengths, and integrating them with evidence based practices to facilitate new or more proactive ways of coping with the discomforts you may be experiencing and/or the change(s) you’re seeking.

While a large portion of my professional background is integrated in sports, as a counsellor, I enjoy working with a diverse range of individuals (16+) and couples. Common mental health concerns and challenges clients see me for include, but are not limited to, social and performance anxiety, depression/low mood, poor self-esteem, disordered eating/RED-S, trauma, relational conflict, communication difficulties, and more.

  • As a former national and collegiate track athlete and current RCC, I have a unique understanding of the psychological pressures that coincide with sport-participation and managing difficult emotions. My experience working and competing within several university athletic departments has helped tailor my practice to better support athlete’s needs (e.g., flexible appointment times, locations, therapeutic approach, formats, etc.), and more efficient forms of communication between various multidisciplinary support members. From holistic restoration to performance optimization, I strive to support the human behind the often athlete-focussed identity, offering a supportive hand to help you connect, reflect, heal, and clarify your next steps forward.
